Reverse Advent Calendar Food Drives.
Three Tons Collected Since December 2020
Reverse Advent Calendar Food Drives. (Three Tons of Food Collected) -
It is “better to give than to receive!” This has been the goal of our Reverse Advent Calendar Food Drives. Instead of receiving a small gift each day from an Advent calendar, we ask families, neighbors and friends to put a food item in a box or bag each day during Advent to help those in need.
Richie and I would like to thank all those who continue to recognize the constant need for food by so many on Long Island. With prices skyrocketing and the pandemic still here, it is more important than ever to help those who face food insecurity. December 23 was very cold, but we had a steady delivery of boxes and bags for our Food Drive; some children even decorated their boxes. We collected 1,044 pounds of food and toiletries, which Island Harvest indicated would be approximately 870 meals for the community. We did not surpass our personal goal of more than 1,500 pounds, but we are extremely grateful for all those who supported our efforts.
With two Reverse Advent Calendar Food Drives and one Lenten Food Drive since December 2020, Grace Church and Day School has donated over 6,000 pounds of food to Island Harvest. The food was distributed to some of Island Harvest’s 400 hundred registered agencies including soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, Head Start programs, senior centers and more.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
