A Grace Church Book of Common Prayer Resurfaces After More Than 130 years
Recently, at the Christmas Dinner given by Grace Church at the Town of Oyster Bay Housing complex in East Massapequa a women resident showed the assembled Church members and seniors an interesting and historical document. She was in posssession of a personal Book of Common Prayer that was printed in 1868 and presented to a parishioner of Grace Chuch, Annie Albro, in November 1883,
The title page reads in part the Book of Common Prayer and Administration of the Sacraments”¦According to the Use of the Protestant Episcopal in the United States of America.
The inscription page reads Annie Albro, Grace Episcopal Church S.S. South Oyster Bay, November 1883.
Imagine the journey this book has taken from being printed in New York at Cooper Union on Fourth Avenue, reviewed by the Episcopal Bishop of New York, Horatio Potter in 1868 and then given to Annie Albro in 1883”¦.held by her family and given to a family friend that lives in the Housing complex where Fr. Walter and Grace volunteers worked to provide Christmas dinner of food, companionship and Christmas spirit. Certainly a long journey of prayer, failthful use and time”¦view the pictures of the book.
